Sleeping Bear Dunes, Empire, Michigan 6/8/2014

We woke to cloudy skies and very cool weather. But by 10 we were up and about to visit the Sleeping bear Museum and learn about a place so beautiful that you know God exists because man cannot began to build a sight so magnificent.

A visit to friends in Grayling, Mi.

As we travel to our next destination Harry and I took a side trip to visit good friends, Cindy and Jim in Grayling. We were excited to see them and view their lovely city. We met them in Frostproof, Fl and when they returned to Mi. they stopped in Georgia to visit us. Good friends are more valuable than gold.

Out to eat at a local Pub. Highly recommend

Mackinaw City, Michigan

We arrived at Tee Pee campground on June 5th to stay on the banks of Lake Huron with the Mackinaw Bridge in our sight. We have seen so much on this trip and each stop seems more beautiful.

We celebrate our 49th anniversary June 6, 2014

Where did time go? It seems like just yesterday that we were two young kids getting married. We met in Atlanta where we both were attending Business School and working. We were both 19 but we knew what we wanted and with our parents somewhat approval we were married in a little Methodist Church in Tate, Georgia.

We celebrated with good friends in Mackinaw City, Michigan. One on the couples we are traveling with also shared our anniversary. Same day and year. Gary and Carol Baker shared with us our special day. 

Ishpeming, Michigan

We arrived in Ishpeming, Michigan May 31, 2014 and stayed at Country Village RV Park. on 41 W Country Lane.
The weather was not good, very cloudy and lots of rain but we still had a great time. Being with good camping buddies make it fun even in lousy weather.
One day we did drive into Wisconsin so we could put this on our map. On the way back we ate at a great restaurant that served breakfast buffet until 3 o'clock so yes we pigged out on biscuits, gravy, eggs, salads, desserts french toast and lots of good coffee.
Food becomes important and we seem to eat a lot of it. A big thank you to Carol for wonderful southern fried potatoes and Rachel for Salmon patties, and myself for sweet potato cobbler. We definetely brought the south to Michigan.

During our visit we saw ice still floating in Lake Superion. Brrrr

Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point

Another day trip was spent at Shipwreck Museum where we saw items from the many shipwreck's that occurred in Eastern Lake Superior, near Whitefish Point in scenic UP. The most famous was :

Edmund Fitzgerald

The legend of the Edmund Fitzgerald remains the most mysterious and controversial of all shipwreck tales heard around the Great Lakes. Her story is surpassed in books, film and media only by that of the Titanic. Canadian folksinger Gordon Lightfoot inspired popular interest in this vessel with his 1976 ballad, "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald."

The Edmund Fitzgerald was lost with her entire crew of 29 men on Lake Superior November 10, 1975, 17 miles north-northwest of Whitefish Point, Michigan. Whitefish Point is the site of the Whitefish Point Light Station and Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum. The Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society (GLSHS) has conducted three underwater expeditions to the wreck, 1989, 1994, and 1995.

At the request of family members surviving her crew, Fitzgerald's 200 lb. bronze bell was recovered by the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society on July 4, 1995. This expedition was conducted jointly with the National Geographic Society, Canadian Navy, Sony Corporation, and Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. The bell is now on display in the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum as a memorial to her lost crew.

St. Ignace, Mi.

On May 25th 2014 we arrived in St. Ignace

To arrive in St Ignace we crossed the famous Mackinac Bridge. Wow a great experience.

We stayed at a great Passport America campground.

Our first days travel was to Sault Ste. Marie to tour the Soo Locks

The next travel day was to Mackinac Island where we spent the day seeing how the rich and famous lived.

All trafific on the island is by horse and buggy/carriage or bicycle except for the ambulance and fire trucks.

I have always wanted to see the Grand Hotel where the film Somewhere in Time was filmed and even though there was a Govenors meeting in the hotel and we could not go inside it was an item on my "Bucket List"

 Even UPS must ride the boat to the Island and unload to a horse and wagon to deliver the packages
